From concept to reality

History & values

Since 2010, from the very moment the company was founded, we have considered that floating wind is the future of offshore wind. An obvious potential , but a sizeable challenge.

The founders’ philosophy

Tchernobyl, Deepwater Horizon, Fukushima… Our planet suffers from an energy policy enherited after the glorious 30 with noticeable signs of this suffering becoming increasingly visible.

In 2010, when Ideol was created, our founders Paul de la Guérivière and Pierre Coulombeau were convinced that to counter climate change and prepare the future’s energetic mix, offshore wind was a solution, but that floating wind – featuring unlimited depth and harmless for the coastal landscape – would rapidly become essential.

Oceans across the world offer a free and unlimited source of renewable energy. The world's most abundant and best wind ressources are located further offshore and at depths beyond 50 m.

Ideol was therefore founded with a single aim: introduce innovation to the segment of foundations for offshore wind turbines and especially in the segment of floating foundations in order to greatly reduce the cost of offshore turbines.

3 years of  development... then business

The engineers and experts collaborating with us have used their vast experience of the offshore industry and renewable energies to develop a floating breaktrough technology for offshore turbines, based on our parent patent: Damping Pool®.  After a series of tank tests, Ideol launched the development of its first prototype (Floatgen) and was then contacted by the Japanese gouvernment to engineer two other demonstrators. The wheels were turning!

Ideol today: innovation and community involvement

Since 2016, Ideol has also worked on a pre-commercial project in France (Eolmed) along with several pre-commercial and commercial projects worldwide. Today our activities are guided by two core values: innovation of course, that guides our daily work, but also commitment, to both the planet and humankind. For example, each year we organise a competition for associations with a major social impact, during which, together, we select the associations that we support both by funding and a day of voluntary service.

Ideol raises €15 million to finance the acceleration of its international development

Ideol is pleased to announce the signing of a €15 million capital funding round, led by private equity firm Kerogen Capital (“Kerogen”), a leading energy specialist investor based in Hong Kong and London.
This latest investment further establishes Ideol as one of the clear global front-runners in floating offshore wind. Created in 2010, Ideol has developed an industry-leading and internationally recognized floating foundation which promises to quickly become one of the most significant commercial solutions in the rapidly developing floating offshore wind industry. Ideol is already at an advanced stage of deployment with two floating wind demonstrators, built locally in France and Japan (two key markets). Ideol’s patented technology is designed to operate with both current and future large-scale wind turbines and to be the most cost-competitive solution in the floating offshore wind market.
